Hong KongThe government of Honk Kong has announced that it will not follow Singapore’s decision in blocking online gambling sites. Hong Kong will continue to give access to online casino sites for its citizens and they further support the move by saying that it is the right for residents to have freedom to information.

Hong Kong Home Affairs Bureau is the only one that has viewpoints that contradict other government bureaus in the region. Singapore recently announced that they have made a decision to block citizens to illegal betting sites.

However, Instead for Honk Kong to issue blacklists of illegal betting sites, they have opted to rely on the enforcement and regulation of existing betting laws.

The spokesperson spoke to Honk Kong authorities and said,

Do not block one’s internet access out of respect for the freedom to access information. We have also adapted a multipronged strategy which includes regulation, public education, law enforcement, treatment services and provision of counseling

These comments will be deeply disappointing to managers of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), the only company authorized to take online wagers from the special administrative region of China. Patrick Jay, HKJC’s director of trading had accused illegal online gaming operators to having “links to organized crime.
