The Star Gold CoastThe Star Entertainment Group has revealed plans to build a second tower at its Jupiters Casino location on the Gold Coast.

The new 200m-high ocean-facing hotel tower being proposed would be in addition to the ongoing construction of a 17-story luxury tower and the $345 million renovation of its existing hotel.

The company also made an announcement changing the name of the project to The Star Gold Coast from the current Jupiters Gold Coast, which will be rolled out towards the end of this year.

The new hotel tower is expected to have 700 hotel rooms and apartments and will be rated as a 4.5 star hotel. If this new tower gets approval, it will increase the casino and resort’s total room count to around 1,400. Star has said that the hotel tower will offer a wide variety of price-points in order to have a wide appeal. A live sports theatre is also proposed, which will screen live entertainment and sports events from around the world. Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium will be partners in the venture.

The Star, Chow Tai Fook and Far East Consortium had earlier formed a joint venture entity called Destination Brisbane Consortium and are in the process of developing the Queen’s Wharf precinct in Brisbane for $3 billion, which will feature an integrated resort that is expected to be operational by 2022. This team is also teaming up to construct the 200 metre tower at The Star casino hotel in Sydney.

In a statement, Matt Bekier CEO The Star Entertainment Group said,

We want to be Australia’s leading integrated resorts operator and our plans for the Gold Coast are a significant part of that vision. Our commitment to the Gold Coast is unambiguous. Adding another tower in joint venture with such highly-credentialed partners as Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium has the potential to create a tourism asset at scale that helps serve to position the industry as an economic driver in Queensland.

This new Jupiters casino expansion project has a number of smaller projects including introducing additional food and beverage facilities at the casino site and is expected to cost the owners around $850 million. The new project will generate around 1,000 temporary construction jobs and once completed, the entire facility will have a workforce of 2,300 employees.

As a part of the project, The Star has also undertaken to restore and revamp a long-forgotten canal-facing park at Broadbeach, which will be developed in honour of the Gold Coast Bulletin centenary. The company has proposed a $1 million transformation project for the park that will include new lighting, pathways, stage and seating which will coincide with the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
