UK Delays Implementing Its New Gambling Act

The UK Gambling Commission has issued a statement on its website that the new Gambling Act 2014 will be implemented and made effective as from the 1st of November 2014. The reason for this delay is that of the ongoing judicial review or the bill prompted by a challenge from the Gaming Association and Gibraltar Betting.

According to the actual statement, it reads as follows;

Due to a High Court challenge to the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014, [the Department of Culture Media and Sport] will be taking the necessary steps to postpone this legislation coming into force until November 1, 2014.

It is further stated that the judgment will proceed without undue time pressure. The bill was meant to come into effect earlier on the 1st of October, 2014 but the Department of Culture Media and Sport is taking some necessary steps at which this will see the bill coming into force until the 1st of November 2014.

The new gambling law requires that offshore sites offering online gambling services should register with the UK gaming license and pay taxes but Gibraltar has challenged the decision hoping to make efforts in overthrowing the move as it anticipates that operators will leave its jurisdiction.
