Wynn Everett Confirms Veteran Hiring Requirement For Design Phase Surpassed

The controversial Wynn Everett casino recently confirmed that it had not only met but also surpassed its veteran hiring requirements for its design phase. The $1.7 billion dollar casino has had its fair share of legal problems as the city of Boston and Mayor Martin Walsh have opposed the project stating that the state gaming commission had violated a number of procedures in order to grant the casino a license to operate in Massachusetts.

State governments derive a number of benefits from the casino industry but the two greatest benefits will be the revenue generated from gaming taxes and the number of employment opportunities created by the casino through part time construction jobs and full time operations jobs. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has given casinos strict hiring goals to ensure that women, veterans and minorities are awarded a fixed percentage of the contracts and employment opportunities on offer.

Wynn Everett confirmed that it had already allotted over $3 million in contracts to businesses that were owned by Veterans. Robert DeSalvio, president for Wynn Everett confirmed that Wynn Resorts was committed to helping and assisting veterans, women and minorities and would continue to meet these goals through each phase of the Wynn Everett project. DeSalvio also stated that the Wynn Resorts was proud to collaborate with veterans during the Veteran Day week and recognize them for their contributions to the nation.

Wynn Everett had initially set for themselves a target to have 7.9 percent of consultant and contract jobs from the minorities, 10 percent from businesses owned by women and 1 percent from the veteran community. Wynn confirmed that it had now awarded 6.2 percent of its design phase costs to the Veteran community. Wynn Everett had collaborated with the Massachusetts veteran community and veteran owned businesses in the state to find a strong group of suitable contractors and consultants.

MGM Springfield had earlier informed the MassGaming Access and Opportunity Committee that it was struggling to meet its veteran hiring numbers as the company was finding it hard to identify suitable veteran owned businesses and encouraged veteran owned businesses to apply for contracts via the gaming commission.

Although Wynn Everett has surpassed its veteran hiring for its design phase, the company has encouraged veterans to apply for other contracts and employment opportunities that will become available during the next phases of the project. Wynn Everett has asked veterans to send in their application via the www.WynnInEverett.com website.
