Proposed The Londoner MacaoSands China the Asian subsidiary of U.S. giant Las Vegas Sands Corp. has confirmed that its new Londoner Macau casino will open its doors to the public on Feb 8.

This is good news for Sands China and its parent company as they worked hard to be able to open the Londoner before the start of the Chinese New Year (CNY).

CNY 2021 which is the year of the Ox will start on Feb 12 and the party will go on for two weeks. China will shut down for two weeks of holidays as millions of Chinese will travel to be with their loved ones and families. Millions of Chinese will across cross the border into Macau to play at the casinos and celebrate CNY.

Macau’s casinos have taken a huge financial hit in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and have lost millions of dollars. Sands Corp has also suffered huge losses as it gets more than 50 percent of its revenue from Macau. Sands China is looking to recover in 2021 and is off to a good start by having the Londoner ready before CNY.

The Londoner Macau is not completely finished and hence all facilities will not be opened to the public for CNY. Sands China has confirmed that the property will be opened in a progressive manner during 2021. Sands China has spent over $1.8 billion to revamp the property and give it a massive themed makeover.

What will be open to the public is the Londoner Hotel, a number of themed non-gaming attractions and loads of new restaurants. The Londoner Hotel has already started taking bookings and commenced taking guests from Jan 22.

First Opening Without Sheldon Adelson

Former chairman and founder Sheldon Adelson was the man who came out with themed casino resorts from the Venetian in Las Vegas, to the Parisian and the Londoner in Macau. The 87 year old casino magnate passed away on Jan 11, 2021 but his presence will definitely be felt when the Londoner opens as he was very involved in the project.

The Londoner Macau will have over 5,700 employees waiting on their guests to showcase Forbes service standard and detailed knowledge of British history and culture. A suite at the Londoner Hotel for one night will cost approximately $700 during the CNY.
