Palms Casino Resort Will Re-Open Under New Management In Spring

Palms Casino Resort will reopen this spring after being closed for over two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Las Vegas casino will operate under new management after being acquired last year by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians (SMBMI) under a $650 million deal with the property’s former owners, Red Rock Resorts.

SMBMI is a federally-recognized American Indian tribe in San Bernardino County, California. Its purchase of Palms Casino makes it the first tribe to own a resort in Las Vegas, the country’s gaming hub.

In line with the tribe’s reopening plans for Palms, it appointed former MGM Resorts international executive Cynthia Kiser Murphey as the new General Manager of the casino. According to Murphey, the facility will welcome back customers as soon as all of the requirements are complied with and the job vacancies are filled.

Former Palms Employees to be Recalled

The management is currently in the process of finding new hires. Over the past few weeks, the team has been busy interviewing applicants, many of whom are highly qualified for the jobs on offer. Murphey also said they intend to recall hundreds of former Palms employees, most probably at least 500 of the 1,200 workers who had been affected by the casino’s two-year closure.

Restorations Continue

Before the pandemic, Palms underwent major renovations enhancing the casino’s gaming floor, remodeling its rooms, and adding more dining places, including Chef Michael Symon’s Mabel’s BBQ which will resume operating at the casino once it reopens.

The entire Palms property includes a hotel, a 599-unit condominium tower, as well as a massive casino that houses 1,400 slot machines and over 50 tables. The resort also has a sportsbook which was acquired in 2020 by the Caesars-owned William Hill US.

Murphey gave further details on their restoration plans for the casino, saying they’re currently looking at certain areas that need repairs and rehabilitation, among them are the property’s parking lot, landscapes, as well as multiple parts of the establishment where Red Rock’s most expensive pieces of artwork are on display. She also added that the facilities for employees will be renovated.

Murphey declined to give a reopening date, but it’s understood Palms will resume its operations over the next couple of months.
