PlayUp already has made moves into the lucrative U.S gaming market. The Australian casino operator now has sports betting sites operating in the states of Colorado and New Jersey. However, its operation in Pennsylvania is currently slated only for online casino operations and not sports betting. Gaming laws in Pennsylvania are more flexible towards online casinos than sportsbooks as all of the sportsbooks licenses have already been allotted.
PlayUp spokesman, Kevin Smith confirmed that PlayUp has not yet started the licensing process to operate an online casino in the state. However, they remain confident that they will get the necessary approval to run an online casino in PA. The operator will have to submit its iGaming application to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) in the near future, as it plans to open its online casino in 2022.
PlayUp currently operates only sportsbooks in the United States and is keen to launch its iGaming operations. While plans are being made for a PA launch, the operator is also looking at launching an online casino in New Jersey. If things go as per plan, it looks like the online casino in New Jersey will go live first.
The operator does have a lot of experience running online casinos in other jurisdictions which will serve them in good stead when they launch in America. The plan is for the New Jersey online casino to open its doors during the first three months of 2022 while the PA online casino should go live before the end of the first half of 2022.
While PlayUp will be limited to running just an online casino in Pennsylvania, the operator has not ruled out a push for a sports betting license. Smith said that the company plans to offer both online casino and sports betting in all the states it operates in.
The biggest hurdle for the company will be the set limit that Pennsylvania has for sports betting licenses. Smith states that the company is exploring all options that are available to see if it can get approval for a sports betting license going forward.
