Mohegan Inspire On Track To Launch Non-Gaming Operations In 2023

Inspire Entertainment Resort (Mohegan Inspire), the newest integrated resort in South Korea, could launch non-gaming operations by the end of 2023. Phase 1 of the construction is nearing completion and is likely to be finished in September, according to Chen Si, the company’s chief operating officer.
Mohegan Inspire Casino, South Korea Expected to Open By End of 2023
During a press conference held this week at the integrated resort’s construction site near Incheon International Airport, Si stated that construction progress for Phase 1 has reached 63%, which means the mega-development is on track for a late 2023 opening.
Phase 1, which covers an area of 461,661 square meters, will feature three five-star hotels, a 15,000-seat indoor arena, and a foreigner-only casino, among other key amenities. The initial phase of construction has a total development cost of 2 trillion won ($1.49 billion).
Mohegan Inspire is owned by US-based gaming operator Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment which currently operates seven properties across North America, including Atlantic City in New Jersey, Las Vegas, and Niagara Falls in Ontario. In 2016, it secured a license from the South Korean government to develop Mohegan Inspire.
Mohegan Inspire involves four phases of construction and is set to become the largest integrated resort in Northeast Asia upon completion of all four phases. The $5 billion integrated resort sits on 4.3 million square meters of land and will have its own private air terminal, a first in the world. Its indoor arena is the largest entertainment arena in South Korea.
The property will also feature a convention center and premier dining and shopping areas. Si said they’re looking to leverage Mohegan Inspire’s proximity to the airport to attract businesses and foreign visitors.
Mohegan Inspire will hire 3,000 employees at the property alone and will generate more jobs indirectly throughout the region.
Casino Likely to Open in First Quarter of 2024
Mohegan Inspire is being developed in partnership with South Korean business conglomerate Hanwha Group.
Si said they’re hoping to complete Phase 1 construction by September. The property is slated to open its doors in the fourth quarter of 2023 and will initially offer its non-gaming facilities. The casino will likely begin operating in the first quarter of 2024, after obtaining the necessary permits.
